History in the Making

It certainly feels we have experienced a decade of life through the first part of 2020 – the history books will need several chapters for this year. Each headline takes over the next. In case you forgot, 2020 (so far) has brought us President Donald Trump’s impeachment and acquittal, primary debacle in Iowa, Kobe Bryant’s death, Australia’s brushfires, the UK officially withdraws from the European Union, Harvey Weinstein found guilty of criminal sexual acts, Cornavirus sweeps across the world infecting millions and spurring lockdowns, global stock markets plunge in March, 2020 summer Olympics postponed a year, and the murder of George Floyd – to name a few.
Minneapolis does not typically make international news. However, over the past several days our city has become the center of the world. Many of our personal and business conversations have included the topic of what is going on in our backyard. As the protests and chaos have seemed to settle down here, now comes the hard part – healing and systemic change. We are hopeful the George Floyd trial will become the cornerstone of real change.
At Bond&Devick our roots and culture are grounded in humanity. This is why we felt it was important to become a Certified BCorp several years ago, which means we put our clients, employees and community above profits. Part of Bond&Devick’s tradition is giving back to our community. Here is a link with a variety of opportunities to help. Our local news outlet, WCCO, compiled a great list of options:

Advocates say one of the most important ways to be an ally to marginalized people is to educate yourself on the systems that oppress them and your role in sustaining them. Equality in a community is a win-win scenario. There are several books, movies and tv shows that get at the heart of these issues.

There is a list of movies and tv shows as well, some are based on true stories and some are comedies with an underlying message. Here is a list from People Magazine of movies and tv shows:

Bond&Devick embraces and supports justice for all. We stand by our values which we feel make us unique in the financial planning world, which is often focused on greed and profits at all costs. We look forward to the second half of 2020 and will approach opportunities and challenges by staying true to who we are and what people have come to expect from us.
